Next Phone

Lately I've been thinking a lot about what my next phone is going to be. After having my shadow with the qwerty, then getting the 5700 without it, I realized how important a qwerty is to me, so that is a definite requirement. I really like the web browsing on symbian, but the iPhone and Windows Mobile have threaded text messaging out of the box. Form Factor is another consideration, I'd really like to look at the E90 to see if that would work for me, I don't think I'd like the front facing qwerty, just because the keys are so small, but side sliders are so huge that I don't know if those are right either. The form factor that really appeals to me right now is the normal sliding qwerty like the Shadow and the HTC Touch Dual. This is all based off of pictures as I've never used a front facing or side sliding qwerty phone. I'm thinking about trying to get an older side sliding htc or and older blackberry to see how those form factors work for me. The E90 also looks like it could work very well, especially with that huge screen. I won't be able to buy a new phone for a couple of months so I've got time to think about it. I'll keep you updated If I change my mind

Geocaching

Today I went geocaching. I used to go often, last summer, but since then I haven't gone hardly at all. Back then I went with friends who had gps's, then they all went to college, and a didn't have access to a gps. Now that I have the N810 I can start geocaching again. I upgraded to a premium account at http://www.geocaching.com so that I could use the gpx waypoint files with the gpview application on my tablet. I downloaded about 30 caches from the Internet, and headed out on my bike. I used the map from the website to get close, then used the stats from the application to find the cache. It worked pretty well, the only issue was that the compass never pointed in the right direction, but as long as you know which way is north it works great. I'm very excited about this and plan on doing it more and more.

N810 Update

So now I've had my N810 now for two days. I still absolutely love it. The browser is great, Canola is awesome, gps is really cool, I can finally geocache. The unit came without a usb cable, but the seller is sending it to me, it was an innocent mistake. I can't wait to get it so I can update to Diablo, the new version of the os. I will keep posting as I continue to use the device.

Nokia N810!

Today I recieved my nokia N810! First impressions of the device were "wow, tthis thing is really small" So far I'm loving it, the browsing and keyboard are both much better than my ipod touch. The gps seems very promising, i haven't had time to really use that yet. I feel it is definitely worth the $275 I paid for it. I will keep posting as I spend more time with the device.

Nokia N810

So I got the chance to purchase a Nokia N810 for $275, and jumped on it. It should be here by monday. I'm very excited, with a bluetooth keyboard it should be able to do everything I need it to. A netbook probably would have been a little bit better, but I'm impulsive and it was too good a deal to pass up so. I'll be doing an unboxing/first impressions video for sure, and hopefully more once i start doing things with the device.

Next Gadget

So i'm getting close to being able to afford a new gadget. I know that it won't be a new phone, as my mom will kill me if I upgrade again this soon. It's most like going to be mini laptop. I been considerin the MSI Wind, Asus eee pc 900, and Nokia N810. I like the N810 because it's small, but I have my ipod for ultimate portability, and the others can do more, so that's probably out. The Wind is the same price as the eee, but offers longer battery life, bluetooth, and a larger screen and keyboard, so right now it's what I'll be getting. I'm also very excited to see what happens with the Dell mini Inspiron, Dell E? It looks promising. I probably won't be able to afford any of these for 2 weeks to a month. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. I'll keep you updated.

New Phone!!!

I recently purchased a new phone, the Nokia 5700 Express Music. i bought it from Bachviet on HOFO for $180. It also came with the Motorola HT820 stereo bluetooth headphones and a 8gb micro sd card. So far I love it, the only thing is I miss having qwerty and wifi, so I'll be buying the E71 hopefully as soon as it comes out. Below is the unboxing video i did of it.

Update

So just a quick update on things...

I'm out of school now, which I'm very excited about. I've also been working quite a bit, which is excellent as it provides funds with which to purchase new tech stuff. I should have several packages coming in the next week, I'll be recording videos about all of them once they arrive.

I also upgraded my shadow to WM6.1 again, I figured out that I just needed to configure the data service for everything to work. It also provides much better reception in school.

Data and wmwifirouter

So the data I signed up for earlier today started working, my phone is tethered to the old dell laptop where I'm writing this from, and it works, slowly, but it works. I also got the wmwifirouter application, which makes my phone a wifi hotspot. I can connect my iPod touch to that hotspot and have data on my iPod wherever I go, AWESOME! Youtube also works when connected this way, albeit very slowly, this will be great for school where the internet is almost as slow as this and a lot of stuff is blocked.

Downgrading my Shadow

I'm now downgrading my shadow back to the official tmobile WM 6.0 rom. I'm doing this because in 6.1 the comm manager doesn't show that I have an active data connection and therefore internet sharing and wmwifirouter won't work, which I need for my iPod.

Data!

So today I decided to spend the money and sign up for T-Mobile's Total Internet Addon for $20 a month. It's only edge data, but its better than nothing which is what I have now. Since school is almost over, I'll be out and about more, and therefore away from wifi more, and so I decided that if I am going to stay connected I need to buy the data plan.

Hello!

Hi Everybody,

My name is Zmiko, and this is where I will be talking about all the geeky stuff I do and love, from cell phones to mini laptops to ipods. I am a HUGE Geek.

I'll start off by talking about what I currently have:
My cell phone is a T-Mobile Shadow with Windows Mobile 6.1 on it.
I have a 16gb iPod touch that is jailbroken.
My desktop is a 20" iMac, first gen aluminum. 2.0ghz, 2gigs ram, 250gig hard drive
I have a Palm TX that I don't use much anymore, I put linux onto it.
I also have a Dell Latitude C600 laptop. It's old but it's what I use to play with different oses.

As I get new things I'll be righting about them and doing videos, so stay tuned.
